Civil War
A Civil War record book was presented to the Alanson Hamilton G. A. R. Post 160 by his son Horace Warren Hamilton of West Brookfield, who was born in Brookfield on September 19, 1827. Alanson Hamilton was known for his philanthropic work and especially for his many kind deeds to those left at home when the boys of 1861 marched to war. To show their appreciation when the G. A. R. Post 100 was organized the members named it Alanson Hamilton. This G. A. R. Post 100 soon disbanded and it is thought that the records were burned when the old wooden Dillon block was destroyed by fire. Shortly after Post 100 disbanded a new G. A. R. Post #160 was organized with 26 Charter members. This post also took the name Alanson Hamilton.
